China to build world's longest sculptures complex
Northwest China's Gansu province plans to build the world longest sculptures complex of key historical figures along the western section of the Yellow River scenic corridor, also part of the ancient Silk Road that runs through Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu. The sculptures complex, which has been named "Passion of Ancient Silk Road", will be composed of 24 giant sculptures, featuring great Chinese ancestors and emperors and giving a panoramic highlight of China's 5000 year history. The whole complex will be 160 meters long and four meters wide, and will occupy an area of 10 thousand square meters. China News Service quoted sources at Lanzhou's Bureau of Parks and Woods as saying, the whole project will take 18 months to finish, with a total investment of 8.5 million yuan, or about 1.1 million dollars. Gansu-born artist, Zhang Chunyang, has spent five years completing the required archetype sculptures.
Scarves in summer? So cool
Scarves of all styles and colors are topping tanks and tees this summer. Long pashminas flow behind fast-walking New York professionals in black. Small, floral silk pieces tied neatly at the throat keep necks warm so the rest of the outfits can comfortably soak up rays. Cotton stoles hang open over short-sleeved tops. Venus Williams wore a scarf over a black T-shirt at the recent launch of her fashion line, EleVen. She pointed out that the chunky, multicolored sash spun around her neck was the only non-EleVen item on her body. "Certainly one of the tricks of dressing to look slimmer has always been using a scarf and calling attention up," says Karen Giberson, president of the Accessories Council. "But I don't think that's the main reason (for the scarves). I think it's just a fun trend right now." .
