Fashion Week | BCBG dresses up spring
The success of the dress continues. At the Wednesday morning preview of BCBG Max Azria's spring collection, the womenswear line that kicked off New York Fashion Week, one delicate dress floated down the runway after another. The best part: Many were wearable. The femininity came from the fabrics, mostly organza and tulle, in a subtle dusty palette with only the occasional pop of a blush pink. Because some of the dresses would have been sheer on their own, the husband-wife design team of Max and Lubov Azria layered them, often with a silk slipdress under a wrap dress or one with panels. "Hiding in the light you will find traditional tailoring and corsetry deconstructed to define a modern woman," said the Azrias in their notes explaining their inspiration.
Peter Som shows his sportswear side
Peter Som turned out a collection of classic American sportswear at his fashion show on Sunday, offering chic daytime dresses with full skirts, metallic eveningwear and even tweed - no matter that the preview was for spring. The tweed, though, looked appropriately light, not like its cozy fall cousin. It was a mix of bright colors that he called "pixel," and the best look of the group was actually a silk chiffon dress with horizontal pleats on the top and vertical ones on the bottom. Som also had a group of blush pink and ice blue outfits that were mostly dressy cocktail-party looks. The highlights were a sparkling stadium coat with the pink used for two stripes at the hem and a dress that had sheer fabric pleats covering a metallic pink sheath. Another noteworthy evening dress was a nude-colored base with swirls of gray sequins.
